A Little Celebration!
I’ve barely written since January, but I’m determined to turn that around.
Writing has been hard this year.
At the start of my MA program, I raced through my new project, but after I got sick in December, I had knock back after knock back. I recovered from the flu, but I had writer’s block. I got rid of the writer’s block by going through multiple, painful flare ups that left me struggling to function. Finally, I got out of my flare ups, just as I went travelling around Scandinavia for the next fortnight. It was like I was being kept from writing, and I started to panic about getting everything done before my deadlines.
Luckily, since coming back from Sweden, the tide has turned!
I managed to get Intermission finished in January, just before leaving for Norway, which gave me a bit of a boost, and I left my residential week in Sweden feeling so inspired. I’ve been working on the last edit/run through of CATFOOD, with a couple of beta’s right now.
But the most exciting part has that I’ve actually been writing!
The Good Ship Verden is a Rashomon narrative split into four points of view, and I’ve fully completed the first draft for one of them. This is such a big step (and one I wish was completed nearly two months ago…) which has got me back on track. I’m really excited to carry on and work on the other three perspectives in order to complete the first draft, and I’ve already started working on this.
I also started compiling a short story collection called i hope you like dead things in January, combining four of my previous short stories with five new ones I have to write, and as of this week, two stories are completely done. As one is a completely new story, this is even more of an achievement.
I’m starting to feel inspired again and I’m really excited to carry on writing!
